About the event

“If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face – for ever.” (Not suitable for under 13 years, Strobe Effects to be used)

Written in 1948, George Orwell’s classic novel 1984 envisages a dystopian future of mind control, constant surveillance, and control of even interpersonal and family relationships by a totalitarian state, The Party, and its figurehead, Big Brother. Winston Smith, a mid-level party member at the Ministry of Truth falls in love with Julia, who is not as she first seems, and together they seek to oppose The Party through a shadowy group called the Brotherhood. Can they possible prevail?

This thought-provoking adaption, set in an alternative reality that echoes our own world, provides a fresh and chilling re-examination of one of the greatest novels of the 20 th century. The Party has purportedly fallen, but has it really? In a world where it distinguishing lies from truth is becoming ever harder, how good are we, as humans, at telling fact from fiction?
